An unpublished story by Truman Capote was found, which the author wrote down in pencil in a notebook. The manuscript was found, transcribed and published by the fiction magazine The Strand. The Guardian writes about this.
The story Another Day in Paradise (translated from English as “Another Day in Paradise”) tells the story of an American woman, Iris Greentree, who moved to Sicily and was deceived by the locals. She is disappointed and too broke to sell the house and return to the United States.
Strand editor Andrew Galli found the story in papers at the Library of Congress in Washington. Capote’s handwriting was difficult to read, he said. “Our transcriber had difficulties. It took the help of an entire team to bring the work to the form it is now,” says Galli.
When asked why he thought the story had not been published, Galli said: “The works that writers used to make a living and pay their bills were not stories. They were novels. But some authors really excelled at small, concise works and loved writing them. Capote was one of those people.”
Recall that earlier in Khudozhestvenny the legendary film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was screened, based on the story of the same name by Truman Capote.
