According to him, “many arrows are flying” from Brussels, Washington and London towards the Hungarian leaders and the project itself. “But this is the case when the caravan continues and will continue in any case,” TASS quotes Likhachev.

He noted that this project is of such a large scale that its implementation will ensure Hungary’s energy security well into the next century. Likhachev also called rumors that the Hungarian side allegedly intends to abandon the use of Russian nuclear fuel as provocative.

Previously, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó stated that Hungary would not allow the introduction of EU sanctions against Russian nuclear energy. According to him, this issue directly affects Hungary’s national interests: Russia is building the Paks-2 nuclear power plant for Hungary and Budapest is not going to jeopardize cooperation with Moscow in the nuclear field.
