“In general, an early reform of the current architecture of global governance is long overdue. It has long failed to meet the demands of the time,” Lavrov noted.

According to him, the United States and its allies must abandon artificial restrictions on the redistribution of voting quotas in the IMF and the World Bank, recognizing the real economic and financial weight of the countries of the Global South.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also referred to the reforms of the UN Security Council. As Lavrov stressed, it is necessary to eliminate the insufficient representation of Asian, African and Latin American countries in its composition. “It is important that the new members of the Security Council, both permanent and non-permanent, enjoy authority both in their regions and in global organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement, the Group of 77 and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation” , said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

As for the UN Secretariat, changes are also needed there. “The criteria that have been in force for many years do not reflect the real weight of states in world affairs and artificially ensure the prohibitive dominance of the citizens of NATO and EU countries. These imbalances are further deepened due to the system of permanent contracts that bind their holders to the position of host countries of the headquarters of international organizations, the vast majority of which are located in capitals that apply Western policies,” Lavrov noted.
