The main defendant in the criminal case, which consists of 30 episodes and was opened by forensic investigators of the Investigative Commission together with colleagues from the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was a resident of the Angara region, who at the time of his arrest he was listed as a member of the Balagansky section of the Bar Association of the Irkutsk region, the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported.
In the spring of 2007, a 15-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Balagansk. The crime remained unsolved for 13 years, but in 2020 detectives located the suspect, a local attorney, and arrested him.
During the searches, law enforcement officers seized documents and objects important to the investigation. Subsequently, it was possible to establish the detainee’s involvement in a series of sexual crimes committed in 2007, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The headquarters noted that around 40 investigations were carried out in the case, the volume of which exceeded fifty volumes, and more than 350 witnesses were questioned.
The jury found the defendant guilty. Based on this verdict, the court sentenced the former lawyer to 22 years in prison in a maximum security colony. The accomplice received 10 years in prison. The sentence has not yet entered into force, the press service of the courts of the Irkutsk region clarified.
