Earlier, the Sun newspaper, citing sources, reported that Larry the cat was “not feeling well.” According to the newspaper, authorities are now deciding how to announce the cat’s death to the British people.

Adopted from the shelter, Larry has served as head mouse since 2011. During this time, the cat “outlived” four prime ministers: David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. The current head of government, Rishi Sunak, is the fifth owner of the famous cat.

Cats have lived in the residences of British rulers since the 15th century. In 1929 they received official status and a salary of £100 a year.
