The European Commission has warned Spain that it will have to face a “very difficult” fiscal situation next year, when fiscal rules are expected to be recovered at the European level, because the deficit will remain above the 3% since the debt will remain “quite high.” This Tuesday, Brussels made public the so-called autumn package of the European Semester, a set of reports that include its evaluations of the 2024 budget projects that the Member States sent it in October and that also analyzes whether the partners comply with the recommendations issued in spring.

Precisely, the organization led by Úrsula von der Leyen has also asked the new Government to send it “as soon as possible” an update of that plan, which it has given its approval. The fact that the Executive has remained in office since last July, after the early call for general elections, has prevented it from preparing the budget project for the next year, which will be one of the priorities of the newly appointed Minister of Treasury and Public Function, María Jesús Montero.
