The disease was diagnosed in two children who lived at the center, after which the authorities decided to declare quarantine. According to Sascha Langebach, representative of the refugee agency, it is necessary to precisely determine the age of the inhabitants of the center and determine which of them have been vaccinated against measles. A mandatory mask regime has also been introduced in the center building.

“It is difficult to restrict the freedom of movement of people who already live in overcrowded conditions,” Langebach admits, but points out that safety comes first and that the measures taken by the authorities are necessary.

Also released on Monday was the decision of a Berlin court, which ruled that the city’s health authorities have the right to require a measles vaccination certificate so that children can attend school. If these certificates are not presented, parents of schoolchildren may face a fine of up to 200 euros.
